Who is this challenge for?

The challenge is open students in primary schools, aged 9 - 11 years old.


When is the challenges?

 11th - 22nd of November 2024 

Bonus round takes place February 2025.


How to Participate in the Primary Maths Challenge?

The PMC is taken in Schools, you need to ensure your child's school is enabling student participation in the challenge. The PMC can be done online or in your child's school. 


What is the format of the challenge? 

The 45 minute challenge is designed to make students think.

  • Q1-20 are multiple choice questions (A-E).
  • For Q21-25, students write down answers in the space.


How is the challenge scored and awarded?

Each correct answer gains one mark. The Primary Mathematics Challenge papers are available in packs of ten. Each pack includes:

  • 1 gold certificate, 
  • 2 silver certificates, 
  • 3 bronze certificates
  • 1 'Took the Challenge' certificate

Teachers decide how the PMC certificates be awarded. Decisions regarding the distribution of certificates are to be made within the school. The spirit of the Primary Mathematics Challenge is to ensure that each school recognises a number of students with gold, silver, and bronze certificates based on their performance.


What is the bonus round? 

The next Bonus Round will take place in February 2025 and is an invite-only event for students who performed well in the first round. The format is similar to the November challenge, with 25 questions to be completed in 45 minutes. Students can participate online or via PDF.
